The McCoy’s Bridge is located approximately 34 kilometres north-west of the township of Shepparton, crossing the Goulburn River on Murray Valley Highway in a south-north direction.

The Project upgrade and repair works to the existing McCoy’s Bridge will strengthen the existing piers to resolve the challenges posed by the ongoing weight restrictions. The bridge was built in the early 1940s and is approximately 300 metres in length with one traffic lane each direction. There is a total number of 23 bridge spans and 24 piers. The bridge was constructed on a floodplain and the topography is relatively flat, with the river flowing under the bridge in between Pier No.10 and Pier No.14. The site is currently used for road reserve purpose only. The bridge was exposed to fast-moving floodwaters during the 2022 flood event, raising potential structural and foundational issues.

Residents and businesses of Moira Shire are facing persistent challenges due to the ongoing weight restrictions on McCoy’s Bridge along the Murray Valley Highway. This bridge, a crucial component of the national highway system, has been under restricted use since its closure during the October 2020 flooding event.
