Duratec was engaged by Jen Retail for a design and construction project for the heritage remediation works for the Market City building in Haymarket.

 

Duratec, with assistance from consultant engineers, promptly developed, designed and constructed a temporary works access system, including a fully functional hoist to facilitate the movement and replacement of one-tonne heritage sandstone blocks, all while maintaining public access to footpaths and roads. The temporary works included the design and installation of hoarding and scaffolding as per City of Sydney Guidelines and requirements.

The works also involved an upgraded lighting system to the building’s façade, as well as seismic stabilisation works to the heritage façade, while maintaining the significant heritage profile of the building.

Scope of works

  • Design and construction of compliant access system with functional winch capable of transferring 1 tonne sandstone blocks along the façade
  • Heritage sandstone repair and replacement along the façade
  • Lead weathering installation for further protection of sandstone
  • Window timber repairs and painting works along the façade
  • Mechanical preparation and painting of heritage metalwork
  • Seismic stabilisation works to the façade
  • Biocide and desalination works to the existing masonry
  • Complete lighting upgrade along the building
