Duratec was awarded a repair contract at the International School of Western Australia in City Beach.

Details

The works involved concrete repair, installation of a cathodic protection system and coatings application throughout the school.

GHD (the consulting engineers) prepared detailed tender documents and the scope of work was awarded in December 2012. The work commenced immediately to take advantage of the school holidays. Works continued when the children returned, with all noisy works being completed on weekends.

Works included identifying the location of the reinforcement in concrete gutters and columns using a micro cover meter to enable the placement of the sacrificial anodes at 400mm spacings. The locations were marked and core drilled prior to placement of the anodes. After the anodes were installed they were wired together in banks of ten and tested for continuity. After testing each hole and interconnecting wires, it was patched with a repair mortar. The final step included the application of a protective membrane coating system.

Highlights

  • Works were performed seven days per week, with all noisy works outside of school hours.
  • Over 11,000 anodes were installed with each anode being individually tested.
  • Over 100m2 of concrete was repaired and approximately 1850m2 of coating was applied.
