As part of fire remediation and building works for the Department of Defence at Lancelin, Duratec performed a variety of works to the Lancelin observation tower located in the Defence training area.
Details
The tower is a three storey reinforced concrete structure consisting of a ground level used for storage, a level one mess area and a level two observation deck.
The scope included replacement of the viewing windows, survey and repair of exterior and interior concrete, door refurbishment, asbestos removal, access ladder and handrail replacement, water tank inspection and refurbishment, electrical compliance upgrade, signage upgrade, internal coatings and the installation of a new photovoltaic system.
The exterior works were undertaken by our specialist access team via rope access, removing the need for scaffolds.
Highlights
- The works had to be undertaken during the training area’s limited winter shutdown period.
- Multiple trades had to be co-ordinated including new access way fabrication.
- Access to the facility, located 2.5 hours north of Perth, was via the training area’s internal tracks and roads.
