BHP Billiton Nickel West at the Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter engaged the services of Duratec’s Kalgoorlie division to install fireproofing material to cable trays in an electrical substation.

The specified product was the Factory Mutual approved FireFree 88.
After the cable trays were cleaned and primed the FF88 was applied by conventional spray and brush.
Fireproofing of cable trays is a vital step to ensure that, in the event of fire, key electrical components and control systems continue to function. The coating reduces the spread of flame and reduces smoke providing an increase in safety in the unlikely event of a fire.
