Duratec is committed to reducing the environmental impact of its business activities, including its in-house operations. The sustainability team is leading the way in minimising the business’ carbon footprint.
Sustainability is at the core of Duratec’s operations not only externally, but also in-house. The business is guided by an environmental management system, which is certified to AS/NZS ISO 14001, and adheres to a sustainability policy and climate change policy.
Duratec’s sustainability team actively implements practical solutions that ensure the business operates in a manner that considers our dynamic and changing planet. Some of these initiatives include:
GreenPower via Threadlet
Duratec has partnered with energy management company Threadlet to power its offices more sustainably. The first target was for the electricity that runs Duratec’s 23 offices to consist of an average of 20 per cent GreenPower, i.e. 100 per cent renewable electricity.
Fifteen branches – from Perth to Townsville and Launceston to Kalgoorlie – have reached that goal, and the Albany office already runs on 80 per cent renewable energy. Duratec is well on its way to the ultimate objective – for 100 per cent of its electricity consumption to consist of renewable energy.
Recycling uniforms with UPPAREL
Did you know that for every kilogram of textiles that avoids landfill, an average of three to four kilograms of greenhouse gases are prevented from polluting the atmosphere? That’s why Duratec’s Victorian branch has entered a partnership with textile recovery and recycling business UPPAREL.
The initiative will see end-of-life Duratec uniforms and PPE reused, repurposed or recycled within UPPAREL’s operational ecosystem. None of the recoverable textiles that go to UPPAREL are sent to landfill, which allows Duratec to assist in closing the loop on textile waste.
